Wells City Harriers enjoyed a busy and successful few weeks of competition. At the penultimate Street 5K race, Jonah Barrington equalled his 1K course record (3:24) and Ruby Shaw set a new 2K course record of 6:58, while Ben Rawlins (15:31) and Gill Pearson (19:19) took the 5K wins. International athlete Elise Thorner opened her indoor season in Boston with an eight-second PB of 8:39.87 over 3000m, moving to ninth on the UK all-time indoor list. Harrier youngsters impressed at the South West Schools XC Championships with podium finishes for Ruby Shaw and Tom Webb, while in the Gwent League the women remain top of Division 3 despite a reduced lead and the V55 men sit third overall heading into the final fixture. There were also standout performances at the Longleat 10K, where David Hirst was seventh and first V45, and at the Portland Coastal Half Marathon, where Ethan Harvey and Jonathan Wilkinson-Ratcliffe completed their debut half marathons side by side.

It’s been a packed and highly successful period for Wells City Harriers, with standout performances across road racing, cross country, and junior competitions. From Tom Webb’s record-breaking runs at the Street 5K and Stoke Stampede, to strong team showings at the Speedway 10K and County Schools XC Championships, Harriers of all ages have been delivering impressive results. Alongside the racing action, there’s plenty to look ahead to, entries are open for the Babcary Road Race, a new Couch to 5K course launching in April, and key dates in the Gwent League and Somerset Series fast approaching.

The New Year kicked off in style for Wells City Harriers, with strong performances across a packed racing calendar. On New Year’s Day, 178 runners tackled the Chard Flyer, where Alexander Coombs claimed 2nd place and Ray Rawbone led the MV50 category. Meanwhile, at the South West Cross Country Championships in Ilton, standout runs included Tom Webb and Sophie Nicholls both claiming 1st U20 honours, and Izzy Kettle securing a podium finish in the U13 girls’ race. Other Harriers also impressed across age groups, from U11 to seniors, contributing to several team and county placings. On the road, Jon James smashed the V60 course record at the Clevedon Boxing Day 4 Mile, while David Hall dominated his age category at the Portsmouth Coastal Half Marathon, finishing well inside the London Marathon qualifying time.

Harriers enjoyed a busy and highly successful end to the year, with strong performances across road racing, cross country and festive events at home and abroad. Highlights included standout results at the Baltonsborough Christmas Pudding Race, county medal success at the Four Counties Cross Country, record-breaking runs from Tom Webb, and international representation at the Lanzarote Marathon, alongside well-attended training sessions and socials to round off the year. The Club would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to sharing more impressive running, social gatherings and friendly competition in 2026.

It has been another packed and memorable period for the Harriers, with standout performances across road racing, cross country, club events and beyond. From a record-breaking night at the Street 5K—where junior Jonah Barrington stole the headlines with a new 1K course record—to strong team showings at the Gwent League and Wessex League fixtures, Harriers of all ages have been delivering impressive results in challenging conditions. Add in successes at the Full Monty Cute, crazily fast times in London, national schools competition honours, a well-attended Christmas meal, and the launch of our new club kit, and it’s clear the club is finishing the year with momentum, with plenty still to come in the next few weeks.
