Wells City Harriers has teams competing across two cross country leagues with fixtures held from September to March. There are also opportunities for athletes to compete in championship races, full details below:
Gwent XC League
Fixtures are usually on a Saturday. The Harriers pre-pay for league entries so running in this league for Wells City Harriers does not cost you anything (it is part of your Membership through the Harriers or YOAC). There are five fixtures between October and March. Competitors must wear a Harrier vest or t-shirt. Contact kit manager Graham well ahead of the fixture if you need one.
Wessex League
Fixtures usually held through the autumn months, this is a smaller league but excellent choice for junior athletes with fixtures usually held throughout the Dorset area.
It’s most likely that many of the competitive senior athletes and the older juniors, u17 upwards (though younger ones are invited too), will enter the Gwent League as it is tougher than the Wessex League and involves more travelling. For info/contact, Simon Prior or Jon James at the Tuesday training session before each league fixture.
County, Regional & National XC Championships
The Championship season starts with the County Championships in December - all Harriers are encouraged to compete by entering online at least 10 days before the event. After the New Year there are then the South-West and Southern Championships in January, and the National XC Championships follow on. All of these Championships have early deadlines.- don't miss them! It is the athletes responsibility to make sure they are entered.
Members of Yeovil Olympiads compete as Wells City Harriers in cross country events.
