Formal Harrier coached sessions for members now on hold

(AS OF 31st DECEMBER 2020). ALL FORMAL HARRIER coached sessions are now on hold following Govt announcement of Somerset moving into Tier 4 - no Club organised coached Monday or Tuesday sessions. Train with members of your household or with a maximum of 1 other person from another household (max of 2 of you)
WHAT HAS PREVIOUSLY HAPPENED: FORMAL SENIOR HARRIER TRAINING SESSIONS RECOMMENCED AFTER LOCKDOWN 1 IN LATE JULY 2020 & AGAIN AFTER LOCKDOWN 2 IN DECEMBER 2020 AT STRODE COLLEGE SPORTS CENTRE - to start with these were aimed at senior Harrier members (18+) but were then extended to Harrier members age 14+ on the Tuesday night and for our junior members on a Monday night.
When training as a Harrier group or training solo you can follow our training programme - the current one can be seen on the latest article on the Harrier front page of website. When Griup training is allowed to resume you will need to BOOK IN ADVANCE

MONDAY JUNIOR SESSIONS (age 8-15) Members only prior registration needed. Our Club training sessions take place at Strode College Sports Centre on the grass. When Millfield School again allows us to hire the Track facility we will be re-locating there.
When YOAC have traioning sessions you might also be able to train with them. These are also now on hold.

The Club has an agreed Risk Assessment for the venue it hires and it has been shared with the facility managers to their approval. We do not run formal Harrier sessions on public areas.

When we resume training sessions - Given the pressure on how we have to organise and run sessions, and the fact that our coaching resources may be spread across 2 or 3 nights a week we are again RECRUITING TO THE COACHING TEAM. Please contact Paul, Graham or Jon if you want to know more about what it entails and talk through with Paul how the Club will pay for your Coaching course.
Please follow Govt Guidelines during Coronavirus lockdown - and check the England Athletics Guidance when training on your own or with one other Harrier in a safe manner. Please only train in public areas and do not use private facilities until the Harriers have a formal agreement with facility managers.

This is the usual information but please note many sessions currently paused....Training opportunities with the Harriers all the year round & for members (only) opportunity to pay discounted rate for a term, or the year. Please read on for the various training opportunties with the Harriers. Come along to give a session a try>
- Juniors (age 8-15) - full track & field athletics programme or XC/road running training on a Monday. Qualified coaches set & deliver the programme.
- Age 14- 74 (younger athletes by invitation if of a good enough standard) Middle Distance & XC Training and quality sharp session for 5k/10k/long distance runners on a Tuesday. Qualified coaches set & deliver the programme.
- Seniors (age 16-76) - road and off-road running for beginners or those in training for 10k, half marathon or marathon. Qualified coaches with beginners group.
Read on for full details of each session, who to contact and for the latest Tuesday training programme set by Tuesday senior coach Jon James see the very bottom of the page. All Harrier qualified coaches at the sessions are unpaid volunteers. Parents and senior athletes can assist by holding stop watches, counting laps, or raking long jump pits etc as required. All sessions are open to Harrier members, and guests where appropriate, but members of other local Clubs are expected to join the Harriers as they benefit from the Club's coaching.

Training opportunities with the Harriers all the year round: COME & JOIN US!
One of the best reasons for joining a Club is to have other people to train with, and to tap into the coaching advice, guidance and expertise available. Wells City Harriers provide a mixture of formal and informal sessions for different age groups age 8 to 80+.The Club has several qualified coaches, some of whom have coached for over 10 years. Come and join us at the session most appropriate to you.
If you are a junior, we can coach you to compete at track & field and cross-country
If you are a senior and have a target to get fitter, we can coach you and provide a training group for you
If you are a senior wishing to complete a road 5k/10k/half-marathon or marathon we have a training group or two that can help you achieve your target

- TUESDAY Evening - Seniors and juniors age 14+ at Millfield track for Middle distance & 5k/10k training
- WEDNESDAY evening - Seniors age 16 upwards at Wells Rugby Club - beginners and experienced
- SUNDAY morning - distance training groups from various locations
