NCAA Cross Country Championships
[Report by Al Thorner]
On Friday 10th November, Elise Thorner competed with the Florida Gators team in the penultimate XC of her University life in America. The regional XC Championships is the final qualifying race before Nationals in Charlottesville, Virginia, with the first two teams guaranteed a place amongst 30 other of the best college teams in America.
Before the race she was given a poster drawn by her team mates showing a swan for Wells City Harriers and an Alligator for the University of Florida.
Elise with her pre-race momento
Finishing in a creditable 25th place out of 214 starters, on her home course in Florida, in a time of 19 mins 16 seconds for the 6k course, she helped her team to 2nd place out of the 29 teams competing and punching her ticket to the NCAA finals. The Gators were the only team to take the decision to wear racing flats instead of spikes on the firm golf course surface to save their legs for Friday's finals which looks like a gamble that paid off.
With the Gators going into the championships ranked 5th and favourites to take the individual title, it should be a thrilling race on Friday with the added luxury of the team travelling by chartered private flight to avoid connecting flights on the way.
Elise looking strong, finishing 25th

Biathle World Championships, Bali
U13 Harrier, Eva Dowden, was competing internationally in the Biathle and Triathle World Championships in Bali, India. Biathle is a running-swimming event and triathle includes running, swimming and laser shooting.
[Report by Stuart Dowden]
We all had a great time with really tough conditions, soft sand, grass, 33 degree heat, 95% humidity, and shallow swimming water due to tides. There was great competition from countries more accustomed to the weather (South Africa, Egypt, Etc) Eva took part in 6 races over 4 days including heats, which really was pushing it for anybody, especially in the tough conditions.
7th in the world- Triathle individual
Triathle individual team silver
10th in the world- Biathle individual
9th in the world- Biathle relay
