Juniors cooling down after training on a Monday evening with some stretching

The coached training sessions organised by Wells City Harriers continue to grow in terms of numbers attending. The weekly Monday junior sessions which started on 12th October have seen an enthusiastic group of 8-15 year olds taking part - 17 juniors in each of the two weeks - and the senior coached session, now on a Tuesday evening, is starting to see almost 30 taking part, with some new members joining to take advantage of the coaching at each session. We continue to ask that folk register for the sessions a day in advance as we let Strode College know who is attending. Please ensure your membership is up to date. Read on for more of an update on Harrier training.

England Athletics issued their latest update for safe training & competition on Wednesday 21st October. This is to take into account the new tiers of lockdown now being brought in by the UK Government for different parts of England.

EA GUIDANCE FOR OUTDOOR TRAINING (21st October)

England Athletics general update

All of the Harriers procedures and the Club's Covid-19 Risk Assessment is in line with the current situation but will be adapted if Somerset's status in terms of the tiers is changed. We can currently operate our coached training sessions at Strode College on the basis of 12 athletes per qualified coach. We have capped our Monday junior sessions at a maximum of 24 participants and so have a little leeway for a few more new members at those sessions. Our Tuesday sessions can operate on the same basis - up to 36 participants if there are 3 coaches present.

We can expand our coaching sessions if we have suitable space and enough coaches - if you are interested in taking the first steps on the coaching pathway please speak to either Paul or Graham. This is the current list of active qualified DBS covered Harrier coaches.
