Harriers enjoyed a busy and highly successful end to the year, with strong performances across road racing, cross country and festive events at home and abroad. Highlights included standout results at the Baltonsborough Christmas Pudding Race, county medal success at the Four Counties Cross Country, record-breaking runs from Tom Webb, and international representation at the Lanzarote Marathon, alongside well-attended training sessions and socials to round off the year. The Club would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to sharing more impressive running, social gatherings and friendly competition in 2026.

Emma Rigby eats mud for breakfast
It has been another packed and memorable period for the Harriers, with standout performances across road racing, cross country, club events and beyond. From a record-breaking night at the Street 5K—where junior Jonah Barrington stole the headlines with a new 1K course record—to strong team showings at the Gwent League and Wessex League fixtures, Harriers of all ages have been delivering impressive results in challenging conditions. Add in successes at the Full Monty Cute, crazily fast times in London, national schools competition honours, a well-attended Christmas meal, and the launch of our new club kit, and it’s clear the club is finishing the year with momentum, with plenty still to come in the next few weeks.

Jon James raced at the British and Irish Masters XC Champs
Wells City Harriers enjoyed a standout fortnight of racing at home and further afield, highlighted by Jon James’s impressive run at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country Championships in Leeds. We also saw the conclusion of the Somerset Series which saw Harriers excel in the final race at Brent Knoll and collect a host of awards across multiple age groups. The Weston Prom 5 Mile was also a great opportunity for our Thursday improvers to test themselves, whilst a group of Harriers completed the Drogo 10 fell race in Devon. With the next Street 5K on the horizon, entries are also now open for the Baltonsborough 5 Mile and the Babcary Road Race.

Another big turnout at the Gwent League
It’s been a packed and successful few weeks for Wells City Harriers, with standout performances across road racing, cross country and international multi-sport competition. From another lively Street 5K with strong junior and senior results, to excellent showings at both the Gwent League and Wessex League cross-country fixtures, Harriers of all ages continued to impress. The club also celebrated international success in Antalya, where several athletes earned podium finishes at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships, while closer to home Harriers dominated the Mendip Inter-Area Schools XC with another series of superb junior runs.

Geoff Cole racing at the Wessex XC League’s first fixture
It was a busy weekend of running for Wells City Harriers on Sunday 26th October, with strong performances across a range of events. The first Wessex XC League fixture at Learoyd Road, Canford Heath saw junior and senior Harriers compete with distinction, highlighted by Ayla Chard’s U17W victory, Ruby Shaw’s second place in the U13G, and multiple top-10 finishes from Heath Hughes-Davies (U11B), Elizabeth Doggrell (U11G), William Packer (U15B), and others.
Meanwhile, the penultimate Somerset Series race, the Mendip Muddle, challenged Harriers over 20km of rugged terrain, with Matthew Lusby taking victory in 1:24:52, and strong club performances from David Hall (33rd, 2nd V60), Eleanor Constable (61st, 1st V40), and others. On the roads, Sharon Bowles and Lynne Elstob completed the Valencia Half Marathon, securing their third ‘super half marathon’ medals, finishing in 2:34:10 and 2:55:25 respectively.
