Last Sunday a number of Wells runners were out competing in the mud at the Ash races nr Martock. In the shorter 3 km Junior race Wells juniors took all top 6 places with (U15) Daniel Maydew winning in a time of 10.34. While at Chard new member Dan Cahill won the 10k Chard Chaser in a time of 36.03.

The Ash Excellent 8’ (Number 14 in the Somerset Series) is a demanding hilly multi terrain course of 8.4 miles. 8 members from Wells lined up with 120 other runners at the start of a race which was very muddy in places due to the  heavy rain over the previous 2 days.

 

First home for the Harriers in 14th place was (V55) Graham Goldsmid in a time of 58.16, next in 18th was (V40) Justin Thomas in 1.00.18, then (V50) Nick Weaving 33rd in 1.05.08, just behind was (V40) Craig Foley 35th in 1.05.28. Next in 37th place was (FV35) Ali Blaney in 1.05.39. Then (V50) Simon Carr 46th in 1.07.43. Club stalwart (V55) Gary Tubridy was 71st in 1.14.11. with (FV45) Cath Goldsmid 74th in 1.15.14.

 

'Ash Fearsome 5' race

Congratulations to Harriers junior Holly Bigger who was 4th and first female home in the shorter Ash Fearsome 5 mile race in a time of 38.32

 

In the Ash Junior 3km race : Wells Harrier Daniel Maydew was 1st in a time of 10.34, 2nd was William Carr in 10.52, Toby Watson was 3rd in 10.55, Bradley Glover was 4th in 11.02, 5th just in front of Bernard Mealing who was 5th in 11.02, First junior female was Wells Hannah Blundy 6th in a time of 11.06. James Carr was 10th in 12.37.

 

  

Other race results

 

At the Chippenham half Marathon which also took place last Sunday, club member of long standing (V55) Nick Somerville was 39th out of a field of 1200 in a time of 1.25.

 

At the Cardiff 10k held on Sunday 4th September Phillip Bridge was 15th out of a field of 5749 in a time of 31.56.
