The Butleigh Multi Terrain race held on Sunday 11th March attracted 86 entrants. With fine weather again the 7 mile race enjoyed its 30th year and formed race 3 in the 2012 Somerset Series. There were races for the juniors who ran a combination of laps around the playing fields.
The junior’s races with Richard Hughes at the helm organised 26 younger runners who stretched their legs around the playing field.
U8’s winner was Charlie Wadman, 2nd Tilly Cox-Thompson, 3rd Wilf Arrowsmith
U10’s 1st Sam Arrowsmith , 2nd Kathleen Cox-Thompson, 3rd Charlie Lucas
U12’s 1st Oliver Lambert, 2nd Ben Hughes, 3rd tied Connor Couch-Gonzalez with Miles Carrol
U15’s 1st Luke Prior, 2nd Fin Innes, 3rd Darcy Cook.
The 7 mile race organised in conjunction with Wells City Harriers had a strong contingent of veteran runners this year competing in the field. Surprisingly, the first four runners were all V50’s, outright victory going to John Shapland from North Devon, in a time of 45mins 17secs. 2nd Peter Fews from Clevedon AC, 3rd Ken Ham representing Westbury Harriers.
Leading Harrier out of the 14 Harriers running was another V50 Steve Masters who was 4th overall, clocking 47.12. He was ahead of Simon Prior in 8th place 50.16, Graham Goldsmid finished 12th in 50.54
The ladies winner was Rose Harvey from Yeovil, 2nd Katrina Prior for the Harriers, 3rd Carol Buckland, Wells CH, again all were veterans.
Local awards went to Rick Dukes and Rachel Wren .
Other finishers were Rex Whitcombe 24th, Thomas Hywel 25th, John Beveridge 28th, Paul Chadwick 30th , Colin Williams 36th (1st V60), Catherine Goldsmid 46th ,
Rosie Phelps 62nd, Pat Challis 63rd (1st FV55), Kim Sadd 81st.
