Wells City Harriers

"A FRIENDLY RUNNING CLUB THAT WELCOMES ATHLETES OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES"

Harriers are reminded that the Somerset County Athletic Associations Annual Track & Field Championships take place at the Bill Whistlecroft Arena, Yeovil, on Saturday and Sunday May 23rd & 24th. The deadline for entries to be submitted is Saturday May 9th, and can be made electronically. This year there are competitions for u11s all the way through to seniors and veterans. (Youngest date of birth is August 31st 2006). Wells City Harrier members should enter as "Yeovil Olympiads(WCH)" - the Olympiads are our track & field partners, and we compete as part of the combined team in the various regional and national Leagues. Read on for more details also of the County Road Running Championships, the Somerset Series and the off-road events to plan for.

The full programme for the County Track & Field Championships is at http://www.somerset-athletics.co.uk/guidance%20notes.htmT

Note the restriction on the number of events for u11s and u13s.

Also note that Sunday May 24th is the Wells Fun Run with races for all ages from age 8 upwards - Deatails of that event, sponsored by Wells City Harriers, can be found on the calendar or by clicking on the link in the box, bottom right. This is an unfortunate clash but we understand the County AA were given very limited options as to which weekend to hold the County event.

The County Road Running Championships this year will be held over the 5km distance and will be part of the Burnham 5k Esplanade Run to be held on Thursday June 25th, organised by Burnham Swim & Sports Academy.

The next round of the Somerset Race Series 2015 is the Glastonbury Fun Run this weekend (Sunday May 3rd), and then it will be one of the new races in the Series this year - the Wambrook Waddle multi-terrain on May 17th 2015 - Race number 8 in the year long Series now in its 20th year.http://www.somersetseries.co.uk/

Harrier Justin Thomas leads in the rankings compiled after 5 races, with Paul Chadwick & Duncan Verel also in the top dozen, but there is a long way to go and no doubt all will change when the Easter Bunny and Glastonbury race results are included.

There are two Harrier teams entered for this year's Cotswold Way Relay to be held on Saturday June 27th. A 3rd team can be entered if there are 10 more Harriers and friends that now want to be part of the action. Contact Paul.

We are looking for a Harrier to volunteer to team manage and recruit to the Parret Trail Relay  to be held in mid October. if off road running is what you like to do then step forward! Harrier relay teams operate like this: If you are a paid up member the Club pays your entry fee; if we have space and you aren't a member then you pay your share to be part of the team. We advertise and list these events on our website and work on the basis that they are open to all, so as to avoid cliques!

Also coming up to think about for the real off-road/Fell runners:

Tuesday June 16th Beacon Batch Fell Race

Saturday July 4th Charmouth Fell Race

Sunday July 5th Quantock Beast

Wednesday Aug 5th Haselbury Trail

Wednesday Aug 26th Crook Peak
