Wells City Harriers

"A FRIENDLY RUNNING CLUB THAT WELCOMES ATHLETES OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES"

Sam Bedford raced to a 400m pb on the track with a nippy 47.96 clocking this past weekend (June 1st). That time takes him to 12th on the current national rankings for the u23s at the distance. Meanwhile Kieran Young led the Harrier team to victory at the hilly Crewkerne 10k road race on the same day, and the same weekend also saw several junior Harriers out competing in the National Youth Development League matches and achieving personal bests.

There was some excellent running by Wells City Harriers out competing at Crewkerne in the 6th race in the year-long Somerset Race Series. On a very hilly 10km road course the winning time by Harrier Kieran Young was an impressive 35.37 some 30 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Philip Bridge was next in for the team in 11th with 40.45, followed closely by Graham Goldsmid, who was also 1st V50 home in 41.02. Justin Thomas was the fourth Harrier home with his 25th place in 43.29 and that sealed the winning team prize.

Simon Arnold was 29th in 44.17, with Mike Rusca coming back from injury in 31st 44.31 and Paul Chadwick close behind in 33rd place 45.32. Pete Wright was 70th in 50.17 and Adrian Bridge 95th in 53.01 to close out for the Harriers amongst the 181 finishers.

The next race in the Somerset Series, sponsored by M5Glass is on Wednesday (June 4th) at the Tin tin ten (Tintinhull) with the 8th race in the 16 race Series being held at Ninesprings, Yeovil, this coming Sunday, June 8th. Details of the races are on the Harrier calendar to the left whilst the latest Series standings appear on the dedicated website at http://www.somersetseries.co.uk/

Meanwhile on the track, u23 athlete Sam Bedford, running in his Wells vest as an all-comer, ran a 47.96 PB for 2nd place in the 400m at the Welsh Athletics Senior Championships at Cardiff at the weekend. This is good enough for him to go to 12th on the current power of ten rankings.

A good number of juniors have also been out competing in the Yeovil & Wells teams at the National Youth Development League matches - we await a fuller report on performances (would any parents like to report?) but we do know that at Yate on Saturday, in the u15s: Victoria McCabe achieved a pb to win the High Jump with 1.45m; whilst Ollie Thorner achieved a pb at pole vault with 2.40m for 3rd; Elise Thorner was 2nd with a pb of 4.57 in the A string 1500m whilst Harriet Fox won the B string with a pb 5.02; and Jodie Mitchell achieve a pb in the 800m with 2.48. In the u13s: Elena Sidman ran a very nippy 3.47 to win the 1200m with a new pb; and Ben Hoskings ran a new pb for the 75m Hurdles in 15.4 for 2nd place.

For all athletes registered with England Athletics via the Club you can check out your performances on the power of ten website at http://www.thepowerof10.info/. Road and multi-terrain race times can also be seen on the linked Run Britain listings at http://www.runbritainrankings.com/
